Behavioral Scientist

Are you a behavioral or social scientist who loves designing studies to identify behavioral insights with actionable applications. Are you fascinated by stories and how to personalize content for a variety of audiences?

StoryFit is the world’s leader in machine learning and AI for the Media and Entertainment Industry. If you’re someone who can’t wait to binge the latest TV series or catch the latest movie release and is knowledgeable in understanding and identifying their audiences – this is the job for you! We’re looking for an exceptional behavioral or social scientist to help our studio clients better connect their stories to audiences.

We’re Looking For someone who can:

  • Structure and design audience and consumer insights experiments and studies
  • Discover and leverage novel public data sources, deploy new behavioral data science methods and tools, and synthesize qualitative and data-enabled research processes
  • Clean, analyze, and make sense of large, complex AI-driven data sets
  • Humanize data for those without deep quantitative experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, ongoing deliverables and presentations
  • Develop new and novel research approaches to quantifying the elements of story-telling and audience judgements of those elements.
  • Work with our product and data science teams to craft experiments and test hypotheses
  • Utilize excellent communication skills to clearly distill the essence of your technical work to audiences of all levels and across multiple functional areas.
  • Develop deep product intuition to influence future product roadmaps

Ideal Candidate Will Bring:

  • Strong background in human behavior, statistics and data analysis
  • PhD, Masters or equivalent experience in a field that uses analytics to understand human behavior
  • At least five years of experience as a hands-on researcher
  • Extensive knowledge of statistics and analytical concepts and experienced in joining together large, disparate datasets
  • Research design skills including experience with A/B Testing, survey, and experimental design
  • Research statistics (analysis of variance, regression, etc.)
  • Measurement theory & design (reliability analyses, exploratory & confirmatory factor analyses, questionnaire design)
  • Expertise in social-science theories, personality theory, media & entertainment theory.
  • Superior creativity and passion for what you do
  • Organized, self-directed, efficient management of complex projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to work seamlessly as a key team member on cross-functional product teams, from designers and analysts to data scientists and engineers.
  • Proven ability to translate data into compelling and easy-to-understand insights, stories, and narratives that resonate with a non-technical audience `
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong SQL skills with ability to do deeper analyses using R, Python, or Stata

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Machine-learning expertise (neural networks, natural language processing)
  • App development skills, Javascript, API-building, database skills, familiarity with Amazon Web Services and/or Google Cloud Platform.

Script Analyst

Do you live and breathe storytelling? Are you a voracious film and TV consumer? Want to immerse yourself in story data while working with cutting-edge technology? Then look no further!

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about storytelling and eager to use data to analyze the DNA of stories. You’ll work closely with our AI-extracted script data to craft insightful reports for our Hollywood clients. You’ll work alongside a team of analysts to provide character, narrative, and audience insights, and become an expert on the elements of story with the ability to communicate your findings to our executive team.


  • Read scripts and analyze the data provided by our data scientists to find and tell a story
  • Format and export scripts to ensure proper screenplay format needed to ingest into our Story Engine
  • Be present on client kick-off calls to take notes and understand their questions
  • Be able to clearly state your own critical assessment while holding the data front and center
  • Convert complex data and findings into understandable tables, graphs, and written reports
  • Prepare and present report to the executive team and aid in presentations to clients
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative research
  • Collaborate across StoryFit teams to improve analysis, data research, and overall presentation flow


  • Have at least 2+ years of experience in entertainment, publishing, or analytics – studio experience is a plus
  • Experience writing script coverage is a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in radio-television-film, English lit, communications, statistics or related disciplines
  • A strong communicator, both written and verbal
  • A love for reading, writing, and film and television
  • Good communication and responsiveness to feedback
  • Time management and adherence to project deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, grammar mistakes, and formatting
  • Be a creative thinker and a proactive problem solver with the ability to analyze creative content
  • Knowledge of script formatting software (WriterDuet/Final Draft/Celtx/Fade In, etc.)
  • Be adept at working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Google Suite applications and Keynote


  • The position is in Austin, TX – if not local, willingness to relocate preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Summer 2022 Internship

Perfect internship for TV & movie lovers! 

Whether you are a future filmmaker, an observer of humanity, or just interested in how stories can be measured, we encourage you to apply to the summer internship. Non-technical backgrounds are equally welcome to apply!

The 2022 Summer Internship program will focus on understanding the basic elements of stories and how those elements relate to story form, audience response, and appropriate measurement techniques. StoryFit is upgrading its story-elements toolkit this summer, and this internship program will give future filmmakers, researchers, and others hands-on experience with understanding various components of scripts and how writers emphasize various concepts within scenes. StoryFit’s analytics products automatically read scripts and use machine-learning to infer story features based on audience data, as well as theoretical frameworks from entertainment psychology. Our goal for the summer is to measurably enhance the reliability of our current story-elements-inference algorithm by iterating on our current approach and adding in new technologies.

The internship offers the following experiences for accepted applicants:

  • Learn about the entertainment industry through readings and guided discussion with former entertainment executives
  • Help conceptualize and evaluate web-based ratings tools StoryFit builds in house
  • Option to help execute studies, optimize our efforts via project management
